Jordan tourism officials are getting a head start on 2010 by headlining at two major travel industry shows beginning this weekend – the World Religious Travel Expo (Nov. 14-16) and the National Tour Association (NTA) convention (Nov. 14-18), with both shows co-located in Reno, Nevada.
The Jordan Tourism Board is sponsoring the WRTA Expo Holy Land Panel of various representatives of the Bible Lands and is a co-sponsor of NTA’s International Luncheon.
“We are committed to cultivating and responding to the needs of travelers from this market,” said Malia Asfour, director of the Jordan Tourism Board North America. “Despite the sobering realities of this economy, our business from North America remains strong and we don’t want to lose the momentum. Many of our tour operators have reported steady and in some cases increased bookings through the end of this year, and we hope our work at the WRTA Expo and NTA will give our partners a boost as they promote Jordan for 2010 and beyond.”
One of the hallmarks of Jordan’s approach to tourism is its commitment to balancing development with authentic, sustainable and sometimes non-traditional travel opportunities. Asfour has been a leader in the short-term volun-tourism movement, and many Jordan travel partners now offer volun-tourism as a part of their Jordan portfolio.
Asfour is convinced that the multi-dimensional experiences available in Jordan, combined with its special allure for North Americans, will continue to help Jordan despite the current economic slump. “In one boutique destination, people can experience such a wide variety of authentic experiences – adventure, luxury, leisure, culture, spa and wellness, the list goes on – we really do have what travelers from this market want.”
Nayef H. Al-Fayez, JTB Managing Director, will join Asfour and several colleagues to promote Jordan during both trade shows. Al-Fayez will be a featured panelist during the WRTA Expo Holy Land Panel, moderated by Asfour, which will also include representatives from Palestine, Israel, Cyprus, Turkey and Greece. Al-Fayez also will address an expected crowd of 700 gathered during the NTA International Luncheon. During both events, JTB will once again promote opportunities for North American buyers to attend the Jordan Travel Mart (http://www.jordantravelmart.com). The third annual Jordan Travel Mart will be held Feb. 21-23, 2010 in several host facilities at the Dead Sea.
